The Gentle Barn Thanksgiving

Leading up to Thanksgiving, I got a lot of questions about what we would be doing to celebrate. After all, this was our first Thanksgiving as vegans, so we didn't have much experience with vegan Thanksgiving dishes. We ended up having the most amazing Thanksgiving ever! There is a place here in Missouri called The Gentle Barn, which is a sanctuary for animals who were abused, neglected, or going to be slaughtered. We had gone once in October (they just opened their Missouri location in September!), and they told us all about the vegan Thanksgiving feast they would be throwing at the Gentle Barn. We were sold immediately. We went home and purchased our tickets online, and the countdown began. Whatever expectations we had were exceeded. The feast was put together by Natasha, who owns the vegetarian/vegan restaurant Frida's here in St. Louis. The appetizers included amazing vegan cheeses, different types of hummus, and a salad with roasted chickpeas. There were so many choices during the main course: vegan roast, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow, stuffing, bread rolls, and more that I genuinely can't remember right now! My plate was HUGE! Not only was this food beautiful to look at, it was absolutely phenomenal. There were so many desserts, different pies and puddings. My favorite was the seven layer bar pie (also known as magic cookie bar pie, I think!). It was just the sweet I've been looking for on my vegan journey. I could've eaten that whole pie by myself! On top of the amazing food, the tables and decorations in the barn were beautiful, the staff was incredibly kind, we got to hang out with the animals, and even got swag bags with all kind of vegan goodies! After the meal, there was a bonfire, which was the perfect way to end the night. In my 22 years of life, this was absolutely the best Thanksgiving I had ever had. We got to spend it with the animals, advocating and raising money for them, rather than at their expense. I wouldn't have traded it for the world! Thank you SO much, The Gentle Barn, Natasha, and everyone else who made our Thanksgiving so perfect. We will definitely be back next year! :)
